Privacy Policy
Draft UK-focused policy for initial launch. Not legal advice.
1. Who we are
This policy explains how Star Learning (“we”, “us”) collects and uses personal data when you use this website and related services (the “Service”).
2. What data we collect
- Account data: email, username/display name, role (parent/child/admin), and authentication identifiers.
- Child profile data (managed by a parent/guardian): age range, avatar/customisation choices, learning preferences (such as subject priorities), and feature toggles.
- Learning activity: course/lesson enrolment, lesson progress, quiz results, worksheet answers/overlays saved in-app, and game progress.
- Support & feedback: reports you submit through the “Report” feature, including your message and (where available) the page you were on.
- Device/usage data: basic technical information such as browser user agent and viewport size. Like most websites, our hosting providers may also process IP addresses and logs for security and delivery.
3. How we use data
- To provide accounts, sign-in, and child session access.
- To provide learning features (progress tracking, quizzes, worksheets, saved work, and games).
- To keep the Service secure and prevent abuse.
- To respond to support requests, bug reports, and safeguarding reports.
- To improve the Service (for example, diagnosing errors and usability issues).
4. Legal bases (UK GDPR)
We generally process personal data under one or more of the following bases: performance of a contract (providing the Service), legitimate interests (security and improvement), and where required, consent (for optional cookies/analytics if added).
5. Children’s data
The Service supports child learner accounts that are created/managed by a parent or guardian. We aim to collect only what is needed to deliver learning features and to keep children safe.
Please do not include unnecessary personal information about a child in free-text fields (for example in reports).
6. AI / third-party processing
Some optional features may use third-party processors. For example, administrative worksheet-generation features may send prompts/content to an AI provider (such as OpenAI) to generate structured worksheet data.
If you enable or use AI features, avoid entering personal data in prompts or free-text fields unless it is strictly necessary.
7. Cookies and local storage
We use essential cookies/local storage for sign-in and child session features. Preferences such as theme selection are stored in your account profile. See the Cookies Policy for details.
8. How long we keep data
We keep personal data for as long as needed to provide the Service and meet legal, security, and support obligations. Where practical, we will delete or anonymise data when it is no longer needed.
9. Your rights
Under UK data protection law, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, restrict, or object to processing of your data, and to data portability in some cases.
For now, the simplest way to contact us is through the in-app “Report” feature.
10. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the Service evolves (for example if analytics are introduced). We will take reasonable steps to publish updates.
